Abstract
This study was conducted to provide an overview of the cost structure of bony fish fishing cooperatives in Golestan Province during the 2020-2021 fishing season. Research data were collected through a survey method and questionnaires by referring to the sample cooperatives in two fishing areas: the eastern coast (Gomishan fishing area) and the western coast (Miankaleh fishing area). Cost indicators were evaluated in four separate groups: variable, fixed, depreciation, and opportunity costs per cooperative by fishing area. The average (± standard deviation) total cost was estimated at 1.33±0.51 billion Tomans in Iranian currency per cooperative across all coasts, with this cost indicator for the West coast cooperative (1.41±0.56 billion Tomans per cooperative) being 43 percent higher than the East coast one (988.15±104.17 million Tomans per cooperative). The average variable and fixed costs, with 898.05±424.42 and 43.14±8.65 million Tomans per cooperative, showed the highest and lowest cost role, respectively. The average remuneration of each employed personnel per month of fishing on all coasts was estimated at 2.527±1.156 million Tomans, with the values of this index on the West and East coasts being 2.710±1.291 and 2.100±0.787 million Tomans, respectively. Repair and maintenance, and depreciation costs were analyzed by asset item, and machinery accounted for the largest share, accounting for 53.2% and 30.5% of the total costs, respectively. Implementing support packages provides the necessary conditions for beach seine cooperatives to purchase and renovate fishing equipment, aiming at reducing costs.
