Abstract

The acute toxicity and histopathology of Schizothorax zarudnyi  (2±0.2 g body weight)exposed to diazinon was assessed statically in 22±2°C, following the OECD Guideline. The 96h LC50 value of diazinon for the fish was 14.70 mg/l, therefore making its MAC value 1.47 mg/l in natural waters. According to the table of insecticides sorting, the toxicity of diazinon was low for S. zarudnyi. Some clinical symptoms and abnormal reactions such as lordosis and neural paralytic syndrome, losing the balance and swimming in a half circle, expressive pigmentation mainly on the dorsal part and block of respiration movements in the fish exposed to this pesticide were observed. Histopathological evidence from the tissues of liver, kidney, gill, and gut revealed vascular tissue of the liver, sinusoids, hepatocytes vacuole degeneration, shrinkage and degeneration of some urinary cells, dilatation of Bowman's space, pycnotic nucleus of some kidney cells and increase in the number of interstitial kidney cells. Complications, such as hyperemia, telangiectasia, edema, shrinkage, clubbing and adhesion to the secondary gill filaments were also observed.

Abstract

Aim: Nowadays, life is endangering women’s health, so that without organizational support, women are engaged in unhealthy life styles. Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic bone disease that increases the risk of bone fracture by creating a structural abnormality in the bone. Osteoporosis is a common disease among middle-age and older persons, especially women. Therefore, the necessity of implementing strategic plans to prevent osteoporosis is significantly important. This study was designed to determine the prediction of osteoporosis preventive behaviors using the Health Belief Model (HBM).
Methods: This cross-sectional study was done among 200 women referred to the health centers in Taft in 2016. A stage simple random sampling was used. In order to gather the data a questionnaire consistent with the structures of HBM was used. Data were analyzed using the SPSS v16 and descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, and mean±SD) and analysis (Linear regression). The significance level was 0.5.
Findings: The mean age of the participants was 53 years. Linear regression analysis showed the perceived awareness among the participants (p> 0.001).
Conclusion: The results showed that HBM is able to predict well the osteoporosis preventive behaviors in women. The findings of this survey confirm the efficiency of HBM in adopting preventive actions of osteoporosis.

Abstract

Aim: A theory-based research program can increase the participation of elderly people in terms of good nutritional behaviors. This study aimed at assessing the prediction of the nutritional improvement of elderly based on protection motivation theory (PMT).
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 200 elderly people over 60 years of age in the City of Hamadan in early April in 2016. The PMT-based questionnaire data were analyzed using measures of central tendency, dispersion, and independent t-tests.
Findings: The results showed that the knowledge item of the questionnaire had significant effect on all constructs of the model.
Conclusion: This study revealed that the PMT-based program had an effect on the improvement of nutritional performance of the elderly people; however, further investigations in other age and gender groups as well as using other educational methods are also recommended.

Abstract

When a Horizontal axis wind turbine works under yaw condition, each blade element can be considered as an oscillating pitch airfoil while the free stream velocity oscillates horizontally. The unsteady free stream velocity, which is usually ignored, oscillates with the same frequency as the airfoil oscillations and has a great impact on the periodic forces produced by the airfoil oscillation. In order to study the effects of unsteady free stream
velocity on the aerodynamic loads, a 2D NACA0012 oscillating airfoil at Reynolds number of 135000 has been simulated. In this simulation, reduced frequency, reduced amplitude and the phase difference between the free stream velocity oscillation and the airfoil angle of attack oscillation are 0.1≤k≤0.25 ، 0.2≤λ≤0.8 و ϕ=0 ,π, respectively. Results show that free stream oscillations affect the aerodynamic loads, vortex strengths
and dynamic stall characteristics. The lift force can be increased by more than 7 times than that of static case and 3 times compared to the load from steady free stream velocity. Depending on 𝜙 value, the dynamic stall angle of attack can be advanced 1 degree or delayed by more than 7 degrees by increase of reduced amplitude. Also, increase of k always causes delay in leading edge vortex formation and consequently delay in dynamic stall occurrence.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of sumac (Rhus coriaria L.) administration on the growth performance, immune response, and haematological parameters of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Rainbow trout juveniles with an initial weight of 38±2.65 g were allocated into 12 tanks at a density of 15 fish per tank. Fish were fed four experimental diets containing 0% (as control diet), 0.5%, 2%, and 5% sumac-supplementation for 56 days. After the feeding trial, fish were challenged with Yersinia ruckeri, and survival rate was calculated for 15 days. Sumac diet significantly increased resistance to the pathogen and led to the control of infection in rainbow trout without changing weight. The leukocyte (WBC) and erythrocyte (RBC), lymphocyte, monocyte, and neutrophil value was significantly higher in fish that were fed a sumac-supplemented diet when compared with the control. Serum lysozyme, and alternative complement pathway haemolytic activity (ACH50) as well as the hepatic expression of TNF-α and IL-1b were recorded to be the highest in fish fed 2% and 5% sumac-supplement. Meanwhile, mRNA expression levels of IL-10 significantly decreased in fish fed 5% sumac supplementation for 56 days. These results suggest that sumac administration, especially 2% and 5%, may effectively enhance the immune system, resistance to the pathogen, and hematopoiesis in rainbow trout.
