Abstract

The incidence of allelochemical substances on the oviposition behaviour of Ectomyelois ceratoniae Zeller (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), to select appropriate site for oviposition and food sources for his future offspring, on three Algerian date varieties (Ghars, Deglet-Nour, and Degla-Beidha) was investigated. The use of Headspace collection via Solid Phase Micro-Extraction followed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry method allowed the detection of 68 compounds of which only 22 were identified in all date varieties studied. The behavioural test with wind tunnel explored the response of E. ceratoniae adult females to the various sources of odours, coming from different combinations of synthetic substances identified in the three date varieties. The pure substances (mono-compounds) presented the highest rates of laid eggs compared to those in the mixture.  Ketones stimuli were the most attractive with about 41% of the total eggs laid rate, followed by the alcohols (15%)  and terpene (7.44%). The esters and phenols  showed 6.38% and 5.58% eggs laid, respectively. These results could open up other research paths to manage this pest and their impact on it host plants.

Abstract

The effect of Artemia urmiana nauplii enriched with flaxseed oil on growth performance, survival and fatty acid composition of severum, Cichlasoma severum, larvae (0.3 mg initial weight) was investigated through a completely randomized block design with two treatments, viz., (1) larvae fed with plain nauplii, (2) larvae fed with nauplii enriched with flaxseed oil, in three replications. Results of the first biometry (day18th), showed a significantly higher survival rate in treatment 1 (81.87±0.29%) than treatment 2 (68.83±1.62%) (P<0.05), but there were no significant differences in the specific growth rates, the average weight and length gains between treatments (P>0.05). At the end of the second period of the experiment (day36th), significant differences in growth performance and survival rate was recorded between treatment 1 (97.82 ± 1.09%) and treatment 2 (91.16± 1.34%) (P>0.05).  The larvae was also found to convert n-3fatty acids to EPA and DHA.

Abstract

The commonalities and continuation of some mythological archetypes and concepts in an individual, racial and human being collective unconsciousness is the principal criterion for the use of mythological criticism in recalling and analyzing various manifestations of myth and rituals in literary genres. According to mythological criticism, some important points are revealed in Attar’s Tazkart-al awliya. For instance if we take structuralism approach to the story of Ebrahim Adham and his son and compare the elements of this story with famous narratives on “father-son” battle, we can conclude that this story is designed based on the narrative of “Rostam and Sohrab”.

Abstract:

The character, as a major element of storytelling, has many varieties. One of them is the historical character. The Masnavi contains many historical characters, but since historical stories are different from “historical accounts”, and historical accounts are not the same as “historical events”, the historical characters included in the Masnavi are different from their story versions. One of them is the chief of the Khorasan mystics, Ibrahim Adham, whose abandoning of power (emirate) is well known.
Although there is not much historical information available on the life of Ibrahim Adham, one may find tales about him in some stories from the Central Asia; however, these are mixed with fiction. There are also various accounts of him abandoning the emirate which come under three major titles, namely “the camel, the caravanserai, and the hunt.” They feature different events but share the same beginning, end and storyline. Molavi has chosen the camel story and put it in his Masnavi. There are also others who have related the same story and who are temporally and intellectually close to Molavi, among them Attar, Shams, and Sultan Valad. Although the quartet(3+1)’s narrations are considered similar and put in the same group, they are characterized by different storytelling and dialectic techniques. Upon analysis, it turns out that the narrative technique of Shams excels those of the rest, better conforming to storytelling principles.

Abstract

The ritual of "The King of the Sacrificed Camel" is one of the rituals about which various reports have been mentioned in the historical sources of Qajar era. In this ritual, a man who looks like the king, gets on a camel in Eid al-Adha. But the camel is sacrificed, the man falls down, and loses his superficial kingdom in severe humiliation. However, the study attempts to seek why the government allowed a man similar to the kind to be humiliated? And why this ritual is held in Eid al-Adha? The assumption is that the rite follows the rites of "Temporary Kingdoms" that were held from the ancient ages to recent eras in different territories. The people of these territories believed that the weakness or illness of the king caused drought, epidemic, and famine. So, they had to kill the king before the indications of weakness unfold and his ghost could be transferred to his successor in full health. However, after a while, killing the king converted to the killing of a man similar to the king, and then killing of this man was converted to his punishment and humiliation, though in some cultures an animal was sacrificed instead of him. The ritual of "The King of the Sacrificed Camel" contains both the humiliation of the temporary king and the sacrifice of an animal. The similarity of animal sacrifice in this ritual and Eid al-Adha helped the organizers to use the legitimacy of Eid al-Adha to continue this ritual. The study employs the phenomenology of Edmund Husserl.

Abstract

The paper tries to present an improved mathematical model for distribution companies (DISCOs) in order to solve Distribution Network Expansion Planning (DNEP) problems in the presence of certain resources of Distributed Generations (DGs) entitled small scale Gas Engines in the medium voltage grids. With the aim of minimizing investment and operation costs, the recommended model combines a comprehensive multi-objective optimization model with grid designer’s experience and power transit possibility in retail trading. The proposed model determines the optimal capacity of new transformers, and the most efficient type and route of the expandable medium voltage feeders under probable power transit condition in retail markets. In addition, this model maintains system reliability along with an innovative formulation. The scenario-based results obtained after implementing this method on a typical distribution grid modeled under GAMS software platform indicate that the proposed model is really suitable for expanding distribution grids.

Abstract

An 8-week feeding experiment was carried out on beluga (Huso huso) juvenile to evaluate the effects of different levels of fish oil containing n-3 highly unsaturated fatty acids (n-3 HUFAs) on fish growth and fatty acid composition. The requirements of beluga juvenile for n-3 HUFAs were studied by feeding fish diets containing six different levels of n-3 HUFAs ranging from 1.56 to 17.25% (% of total fatty acids). Weight gain, feed conversion ratio, condition factor, specific growth rate and protein efficiency ratio were not significantly different among dietary treatments, nor was the body composition (including: moisture, protein, lipid and ash) of beluga juvenile (P> 0.05). There were no significant differences among plasma protein, glucose, cholesterol and triglyceride contents of dietary treatments (P> 0.05). However, haematocrit values were significantly lower in diets 1 and 2 (P< 0.05). The fatty acid composition of fish showed a pronounced change from the initial carcass with fatty acid composition changes in experimental diets. The fatty acid composition of the beluga carcass fed on diets containing various levels of n-3 HUFAs reflected the dietary fatty acid composition. The n-3 HUFAs contents of the lipids of fish increased with an increase in dietary n-3 HUFAs levels. Results suggested that minimum levels of n-3 HUFAs in diet have no effect on growth and n-3 HUFAs are not a restrictive factor on growth in beluga.

Abstract

In this research, we try to study and compare the mythical structure of Ebrahim Adham's story with an analytical-comparative method and with a mythological approach based on Vogler's travel pattern, and show the similarity of mystical memoirs with the author's travel pattern. The result of this study shows that the story of Ebrahim Adham is completely consistent with the stages of Vogler's model. After three stages of invitation, Ebrahim Adham enters the realm of wonders and after the stage of purification and cultivation in the womb of the cave, he experiences a rebirth. As a result of enduring difficult trials, he renews his life and returns to the heart of society in the stage of returning with the elixir of spirituality.

Abstract

The mythical characters with the names of God or angels with multiple hands are seen in different cultures. In a number of religious buildings of Gilan and Mazandaran, there is an iconographic image with upright hands, depicted with inscription, Angel of Rain. In the Iranian mythology, Anahita is a special angel of water, and Tishtar, is the angel of rain. The purpose of this study is to examine the function of multi-handed humanoid characters and motifs in Iranian, Hindu and Buddhist cultures. In all of these cultures, numerous hands indicate helping and hands rising to signify prayer for divine mercy. The purpose of this study is to investigate the function of multi-faceted human characters and motifs in Iranian, Hindu and Buddhist cultures.
